Top Tips For Planning A Stylish Wedding Reception

If there is one wedding planner who knows about planning a stylish wedding reception, it is Kristina Murphy, founder of luxury wedding and event company, Sweetpea & Blossom. When I saw photographs of an all white/cream modern yet incredibly elegant wedding she organised, I knew I had to find out what her top tips are for planning a stylish wedding reception. Kristina trained as an interior designer when she left school and is also a qualified make-up artist, so is multi talented. ‘I worked in investment banking for many years running and working in the events team,’ says Kristina.  ‘We dealt with small intimate events to large scale corporate events. I  loved organising events, but knew that I really wanted to arrange weddings!’ Kristina left her job and decided to start her own company, Sweetpea & Blossom a few years ago. ‘We adore luxury and luxury weddings and helping brides achieve the big day of their dreams. My team also love organising all sorts of different events too, from baby showers to christenings and birthday parties.’

1. Don’t neglect the chairs at your wedding reception

Chairs may not be your most important consideration when it comes to your wedding reception, but they are incredibly important. The wrong chairs can ruin a wedding reception, whereas the right ones can transform the whole venue. Chair covers and sashes are very old fashioned and are not right for those of you who want a stylish wedding reception. There are so many beautiful chairs to hire now, from Ghost chairs to Louis chairs, the options are endless. Try Great Hire for a great selection of chairs.

2. One type of flower

For maximum impact, go for one type of flower as it can really show off your wedding style. Depending on the look of your venue, you could for example use all roses, hydrangeas or peonies.

3. Every detail counts…

In order for your reception to be absolutely perfect, it is essential that you think of every detail. When it came to planning this wedding, I made sure that everything complemented the clean, modern yet elegant look the bride was after. From the dinner service used to the table cloths chosen, everything had to look ‘just right.’

4. Create a stylish ‘chill out’ zone

There are moments during the reception when the bridal couple like to spend a few moments alone and gather their thoughts. I have often been to wedding reception where the bride and groom have nowhere to escape. I created a very elegant and stylish ‘chill out’ zone for this wedding where the couple were able to be together for a little while before joining their guests for dancing.

5. Perfect place settings

It is all too easy to forget about the place settings at your wedding, but this is what guests first see when they sit down. The couple wanted a very understated and stylish look, so I chose an elegant grey ribbon and tucked a white rose in the napkin. It looked very effective and I received lots of compliments about it.
