2018 Round-Up – Real Weddings and Shoots

I hope you’ve all had a magical Christmas, and congratulations if you have just got engaged. 2018 has been an amazing year in the world of weddings, especially as we had two beautiful Royal weddings this year. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding in May and Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank’s wedding in October provided so much inspiration.

The Wedding Community has featured so many incredible real weddings and styled shoots this year to give you ideas for your own wedding, and here are our some of the most loved features of 2018…

A Rainbow Geek Chic Wedding in Cambridge

What does the wedding of self-confessed ‘nerds’ look like? Well honestly, pretty darn awesome! This rainbow geek chic wedding in Cambridge really is very cool.

Sparkling Celestial Wedding Inspiration

Celestial designs are a big thing right now. There’s an abundance of star and moon designs available for just about all aspects of life, from clothing to homeware, stationery to garden elements. Celestial designs make the most amazing wedding concept too, as you’ll see from these styling ideas.

A Merribee Wedding with a 70’s Disco Vibe

This wedding is super-cool. I mean, come on… a dog in a tux, the groom in a white suit and the bride with two outfits including a fabulous silver jumpsuit; these three things alone make for a REALLY cool wedding, right?! And the best thing? The wedding has a 70’s disco vibe!

Hellebore and Quartz Crystal Wedding Styling

I am in awe of this beautiful hellebore and quartz crystal wedding styling concept. Every time I look at these pictures I can’t help but smile, and I hope they make you feel the same way.

A Garden Wedding at Home with Two Ceremonies

Leanne and Nick enjoyed a magnificent wedding with the reception in the garden of their own beautiful home in Romford, Essex. The couple chose the Orangery at Langtons House for their legal wedding ceremony, which was the start of their garden affair.

A Colourful Kate Spade Inspired Wedding

Invitations and flowers for colourful Kate Spade inspired wedding

I absolutely adore Kate Spade’s designs, and I’m still in shock about her death earlier this year. Her designs offer great inspiration for wedding styling, and I totally fell in love with Maureen and Richard’s beautiful Kate Spade inspired garden party wedding.

A Wedding with Geometric Details and Colourful Florals

What happens when a very talented wedding planner and floral designer gets married? An explosion of colour and incredible flowers is what happens! Terri didn’t want her wedding to look like her ‘work’, so she went all out and created such an awesome wedding full of colourful florals and modern geometric details.

Romantic and Elegant Yellow Wedding Styling

When you think of the colour yellow, what emotions does it evoke? For me it brings feelings of summer, the warm sun, soft sand and happiness. That’s exactly why I love this styling concept; quite simply, it makes me happy! You might think that yellow wedding styling could be too bold, but when it’s a soft, delicate shade, yellow can be understated, romantic and elegant.

A Pretty Lavender and Silver Wedding in a Country Pub

Bridal bouquet with pink flowers, thistles and daisies

Alyx and Cam’s Lincolnshire wedding is full of really lovely little touches which show that you don’t have to have a huge, lavish wedding if that’s not your thing. The couple chose a lavender and silver wedding colour palette for their styling, and with pops of pink it really looks beautiful.

Romantic Peach Wedding Styling Ideas

Pinterest is awash with inspiring images of beautiful peach wedding ideas, but as the idea behind this shoot came from a painting, these ideas are so unique that you probably won’t find anything with such splendour. Throw in the backdrop of Beverly Hills and you know this is going to be special!

Cactus Wedding Styling with a Rock ‘n’ Roll Vibe

Cactuses are being featured all over the place right now, including in wedding styling, and I for one love them. They are a quirky alternative to traditional wedding flowers, and perfect if you’re looking for ways to add botanical touches to your wedding.

Navy, Burgundy and Gold Winter Wedding Styling

Happy Christmas Eve! It’s the most magical time of the year, and today I have this magical winter wedding inspiration for you. Wren Photography has captured the ambiance of this navy, burgundy and gold winter wedding shoot so perfectly.

These romantic styling ideas feature many floral elements. From the fabulous floral stationery with burgundy roses, navy envelopes and beautiful gold calligraphy lettering, to the wonderful bridal bouquet, table centrepieces, and floral hoop wreath elegantly hung above the inviting fire. The fire, candles, blankets and rich berry tones create a cosy winter vibe which you can easily recreate for your own magical winter wedding.

Following the floral elements, the bride wears an incredible wedding dress adorned with silvery flowers which glisten in the light. To complete her look, a faux fur wrap is perfect for this snowy setting of WIllowbrook Mill, Michigan.

I love a wedding where the food almost takes centre-stage, and the food here looks magnificent. Such a feast, perfect for a cold winter’s day.

So, grab a glass of mulled wine (it’s Christmas Eve after all) and enjoy these wonderful ideas for a navy, burgundy and gold winter wedding.

Merry Christmas x

Cosy Fireplaces and Nostalgic Charm

“I love a good winter wedding. The cosy romance, an adventurous couple, and the pristine landscape create a completely different vibe to summer soirĂ©es. So, when Jen from Wren Photography suggested we put together a styled shoot to inspire more winter weddings in northern Michigan, I jumped at the chance.

“It turned out the fireside lounge, cable knit blankets and rich berry tone palette on our Pinterest board were just the beginning. Jen suggested we find a couple to actually get married at the styled shoot. They would invite guests and enjoy all the goodness of fireside blankets and berry-inspired dining.

“We reached out to Mimi from Willowbrook Mill, whose venue in Northport has three cosy fireplaces and nostalgic charm off the charts.

“Holly Thomas Design sent over the most stunning invitation suite in rich burgundies, navy, and gold calligraphy. I then talked to Jen at Grandview Catering about our vision of comfort food with a gourmet twist, and mentioned our berry tone palette. She sent me a mouth-watering menu that not only took comfort food to a new level, but also entrĂ©es and winter vegetable hash that became focal points in the table decor. The artistic presentation of pistachio crusted lamb chops was perfection between the taper candles, red wine, and the protea in Rory’s glorious centrepiece.

“Watercolour brie and fig macarons served as amuse-bouche place cards, detailed with guest names in gold calligraphy. We then used linens, candles, cross back chairs and lounge furniture, flowers and snowshoes to pull the whole look together.

“Our models JP and his gorgeous girlfriend Katie added the romance to every scene we assembled, and Lakeshore diamond rings and a fur stole completed the look with a touch of glam.”

Elegant Grey Winter Wedding Styling

Husky grey, soft blue and silver combine for this elegant grey winter wedding styling inspiration, the perfect colour palette to create a serene look for a winter wedding. Couples looking for dreamy winter wedding ideas full of fine art details will love this beautiful shoot.

An abundance of flowers forms the central part of this styling concept, with silvery green eucalyptus working beautifully against white anemones, cream roses and the blue hues of thistles.

Surrounded by candles and foliage, soft grey tulle is gently draped down the centre of the elegant table. When I saw these pictures one of the first thing I noticed was the beautiful plates with cute foliage design. It’s the little details like these that make this styling concept so special.

When deciding on your wedding cake design it’s always nice to incorporate some elements of your styling, whether it’s colours or flowers, or even including elements of your wedding dress design. I love that the cute design of the plates has been hand-drawn onto the bottom tier of this stylish cake.

The fabulous wedding dress, with delicate long lace sleeves, plunging neckline and full tulle skirt, is the perfect choice for a winter wedding too. There’s also a fabulous pair of strappy Jimmy Choo shoes thrown in!

I just know you will love these elegant and timeless winter wedding ideas in shades of grey, captured so perfectly by Melanie Nedelko. Enjoy!

Shades of Grey

“We wanted to create winter wedding inspiration that shows it does not always have to mean ‘blush and creamy’. ‘Shades of grey’ can also be part of weddings – as a colour scheme of course. Husky grey and blue as main colours, combined with different grey shades and nuances of blue, are a pleasant change in the wedding industry.

“It was important to have a few fine contrast points to add a fresh and light touch to the cooler and darker colour scheme, such as the fresh greenery in the florals or the bright and light-flooded rooms with high ceilings of the beautiful location.

“Our bride looked stunning with her natural bridal hair and make-up, and beautiful long-sleeved dress. Perfect for a winter wedding, the dress also featured delicate lace details and a breathtaking low open back.

“We wanted grey and blue to run through all the finer details of the shoot. We included Earl Grey tea and grey macarons as guest giveaways, a one-of a kind wedding cake and delicate fine calligraphy in the colour scheme, as well as matching handmade ceramic tableware. Besides the great tableware and florals, beautiful old decorations and vintage furniture completed the table setting.

“Finally, wedding classics like elegant bridal shoes and a lovely engagement ring are always nice eye-catchers.”
