Cosy Winter Elopement Inspiration at Coombe Trenchard

The cold January weather is upon us, so these cosy winter elopement ideas at Coombe Trenchard look perfect right now. Picture the scene – beautiful country house venue surrounded by the rolling countryside, and the two of you saying personally written vows in front of the roaring open fire before snuggling up and enjoying a fabulous feast to celebrate. Sounds perfect.

I adore these cosy ideas, from the muted colour palette of blush, pale mustard yellow, ivory and soft green to the groom’s tweed suit and the bride’s cosy chunky knit jumper that she wears after the ceremony. The whole idea is relaxed and chilled out, just how an elopement should be.

Simple styling allows the flowers to take centre stage. The delicate roses, ivy stems with an abundance of berries, foliage and leaves in autumnal colours look superb. The bride’s matching floral crown, together with a beautiful organza wedding dress with poet sleeves, gives her a romantic air.

Coombe Trenchard’s romantic look and stunning surroundings makes it a wonderful choice for an elopement. In this shoot the couple enjoy delectable desserts by the fire, warming hot chocolate outside whilst toasting marshmallows on the fire pit, and even a whiskey or two by the cosy wood burning stove. Aren’t these ideas just magical?

Cosy and Intimate

“Coombe Trenchard, a beautiful arts and crafts house in the mid Devon countryside, has a grand but really warm and homely feel. It is also very secluded, so the idea of an elopement shoot there immediately appealed.

“The large fireplaces and warm tones of the venue inspired me to create a wintery feel, basing the shoot around the beautiful fireplaces. I was also very much inspired by the film ‘Edge of Love’, with lots of chunky knits and loose hairstyles, so I created a palette of mustard, dark and pale green, and ivory.

“We wanted to create a cosy and intimate feel. We mixed lots of beautiful velvet fabrics and chiffon dresses and skirts with chunky knits, tweed and blankets. A cosy fireside meal followed an intimate ceremony for two, with vows read from a beautiful velvet vow book. Food was an important part of the shoot, and our couple sat down to relax and indulge themselves with the perfect winter warmers after their ceremony. They then snuggled up outside around the fire pit with steaming mugs of hot chocolate with marshmallows.

“We had an idea for a grazing table of cakes, with lots of warm colours, the perfect lemon drizzle and some autumnal cherries and brownies. Wonderful floral arrangements, just the right side of relaxed and informal, included a hint of blush to carry on the warm tones.”

Wintery Look

“We wanted to give our bride a romantic and ever so slightly 1930s inspired look, so I contacted the wonderful bespoke dress maker Ailsa Munro. Her wonderful pieces included the main ethereal leaf embellished dress, which looked perfect. A warm make-up colour palette and loose undone hairstyle gave a pretty but also wintery look, with our bride also wearing a beautiful flower crown for the ceremony.

“The beautiful golden light around the fire pit gave a cosy end to the couple’s day, and snuggled in chunky knitted jumpers and blankets they enjoyed biscuits, nuts and hot chocolate. Sitting around the fire they toasted marshmallows, and then cosied up in front of the wood burner in the coach house for brandy.”
