Company Name: Emma-Jane Photography

Interview with: Emma-Jane Lewis

Location / Coverage: London, Devon rest of UK and abroad

How did your business get started and who works at Emma-Jane Photography?

I started in Devon photographing weddings and fashion, relocating to London just over three years ago. Weddings and fashion is now my business focus, and love the overlap that the two provide.

I am behind Emma-Jane Photography, but I hire second shooters and creative teams when needed, and I also have the backing of a PR team.

Had you always wanted to be a photographer?

Not originally. I was looking at becoming a vet, but I did some work experience and just wanted to cuddle everything rather than cut into it! It wasn’t right for me. A bit of faffing later revealed a talent in photography and I have never looked back.

Which areas of the UK do you cover?

I mainly cover London and Devon, but I do travel the whole of the UK. I also have weddings in Malta and Atlanta this year.

What do you feel sets you apart from other wedding photographers?

I feel my fashion inspiration and romantic style is quite unique. Having a celebrity wedding photographer I think is pretty cool! Knowing how to effortlessly stylize a wedding can come in very handy and helps take the stress away from the couple.

How would you describe your photography style?

Fashionable, stylish and unique.

What packages do you offer and what are your rates?

I offer wedding packages from 6-12 hours, with packages for a full day at £1500.

What is the best thing about your job?

I love finding that sweet spot in a location, the one that can add a great dynamic twist to a couple shot.

Do you have a specialist area of photography?

Fashion and wedding photography, as well as celebrity editorial. I have photographed celebrities including photographed Billie Piper, Vogue Williams, Sinittaand Janet Devlin. You can see my work at www.emma-janephoto.co.uk.

Who/what are your influences?

I work alongside trends a lot as a fashion and wedding photographer, often influenced a lot by natural colours and very soft tones.

Do you have a favourite picture that you have taken (If you can choose!)?

I have a fair few, but if I chose one it would be this picture from Megan and Chris’s wedding at Orchardleigh House. They allowed me to take them back out at night to do a couple shot in the dark with smoke. I was also lucky enough to win an award for this picture.

What is your top tip for choosing a wedding photographer?

Pick someone who you will get along with and who shares your creative ideas. You want to be in sync.

Random question… If you were a superhero what powers would you have?

Teleportation. I HATE travelling. I love the destination, but not the process.

What’s your typical day like?

Every day is different. It can be a mixture of editing, admin, calls, emails, shoot planning, consultations or meetings. It can also involve shooting fashion campaigns, meeting agents or actually shooting weddings.
