Predicting Prince Harry and Meghan’s Royal Wedding Cake

I’m sure you can imagine just how excited I am about the Royal Wedding tomorrow! I’m going to be up super-early so I can start to share the day with you as it unfolds. Today we are getting into the spirit by featuring this amazing royal wedding cake inspiration from Michelle of La Belle Cake Company.

Michelle is just as excited as I am, and created the most incredible wedding cake that is fit for a royal wedding. To showcase her creation, she worked with a team of suppliers to arrange an inspirational shoot which shows just how amazing the cake is…

Long wedding table with prediction of the royal wedding cake

“Since the announcement of Meghan Markle and HRH Prince Harry’s engagement there was only one thing on our mind at La Belle Cake Company – the royal wedding cake.

“When the Ideal Home Show asked me to create my expert prediction for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s royal wedding cake I jumped at the chance. When creating my design I took inspiration from Harry and Meghan’s wedding reception venue – St George’s Hall at Windsor Castle. Such a grand venue requires a grand cake – something that won’t get lost and have to fight for attention.”

The Design

“Size was the main focus of my design. A venue with high ceilings needs a taller cake, and with an estimated 600 guests there needs to be enough cake to go round. I chose a gold and ivory colour scheme to complement the interior of St George’s Hall. Traditional hand-piped detail adorns the cake alongside a contemporary monogram. Blocking the cake with sugar roses added to the modern design of the cake while still keeping its classic feel.”

The Shoot

“Once completed I knew a photo shoot was in order to capture the splendour of the cake design. The brief for the shoot was, of course, the ‘Royal Wedding’. Rothamsted Manor, a stunning Grade 1 listed manor house located in the Hertfordshire countryside, with a great drawing room, provided the perfect backdrop. It had all the royal grandiosity needed.

“I focused on a luxury tablescape to show the cake off to its fullest. One of the main elements of the tablescape had to be flowers – they just scream luxury. Having worked with Emma at Signature Flowers on many occasions I knew she would embrace the vision – and boy did she! Emma arrived with stunning displays featuring hydrangea and orchids.

“Sara at Venue Styling by Sara helped us bring everything together with her amazing styling. With glassware and linen from Harts Food and Events and cutlery from Helene Millot, Sara bought the whole vision together beautifully, and GnBri Photography captured the shoot with some outstanding images.”

The Real Royal Wedding Cake

“Since creating our prediction the official cake maker for Harry and Meghan has been announced. Claire Ptak of Violet Bakery will create a lemon elderflower cake covered with buttercream and decorated with fresh flowers. Whilst this seems completely against British traditions, in America wedding cakes are usually iced with a buttercream finish, or, as Americans call it, frosting.

“I think that the cake will be four or five tiers high and dressed with peonies, Meghan’s favourite flower. As there are 600 guests to cater for I would imagine there will be one or two cutting cakes in the kitchen too. This is a great option if you have a large number of guests but don’t want a large cake.

“It’s predicted that the young royals will ‘modernise’ the Royal Family, and with this choice of cake design it looks as if they are doing just that.”
