1920s Art Deco Wedding Styling at The Duke

We’ve featured a number of fabulous wedding inspiration shoots at Duke of Cornwall Hotel but this art deco one is my favourite so far. The Duke is such a grand hotel, so the art deco concept works so well. These wedding styling ideas are wonderful inspiration for couples marrying at The Duke or any other hotel with such style and grandeur.

The creative team really made the most of every aspect of the hotel to showcase how the art deco look could work for you. The styling has has a modern, trendy edge, and a lot of the current trends in the wedding world have been cleverly incorporated. A big wedding trend is to have a cocktail bar for a cocktail hour (very 1920s!), and I love the globe drinks trolley, signed with a funky art deco type-style printed menu and a cool ‘trust me you can dance’ chalkboard sign. Of course, no 1920s drinks area would be complete without a gramophone!

If you’re looking for bridal style with a nod to the 1920s then you’ll love the bride’s look. She wears a gorgeous, classic cut vintage style dress with a beautiful feather headband, which gives the look a touch of flapper style.

Everything about this art deco inspired wedding styling at The Duke really is fabulous, just like the era itself. Enjoy these wonderful pictures by UpArt Photography.

An Element of Art Deco

“The history behind the hotel has always fascinated me, and I love the fact it has seen many different styles and eras since opening in 1863. This shoot needed to be in keeping with age of the hotel and its history, so we decided to reflect the 1920s with an element of art deco.” – Agata, UpArt Photography

Classic, Bold Look

“Having looked at all the different elements I took inspiration from the bold and distinctive style. Taking into account the colours used throughout the stationery and flowers I incorporated that into my cake design. We went for a classic, bold look, which didn’t include any flowers. It was something very different for us, but it all came together beautifully.” – Rachel, Cut Me Off a Slice

1920’s Style

“For the make-up I concentrated on a simple eye with a wash of pale gold over the lid and a touch of Black Flicked eyeliner. I gave the skin a flawless pale finish with a cheek colour to complement, with the whole look finished off with a pop of colour on the lips. I used a dark cerise lipstick rather than a more traditional red to give the look a more updated feel. Together with the hair and accessories I think we achieved a really beautiful contemporary take on the 1920’s style, and a look which today’s brides can easily recreate.” – Gem Ryder MUA

Gatsby Style Bob

“Following the 1920s theme and beautiful thick, multi-tonal hair I had to work with, I chose to add a wave using my wand and then created a Gatsby style bob with a slightly modern twist.” – April, Wags Hair and Beauty

A Bit of Bling

“We chose a monochromatic look with accents of crystal, glass and a bit of bling, so I decided white anemones with their almost black centres would work perfectly.

“I designed a shower bouquet similar to those that 1920’s brides would have carried, with the trail made from beautiful white Singapore orchids and eucalyptus foliage. I threaded ivory pearls onto silver bullion wire and trailed it through the bouquet to add a bit of bling, and a natural placuna shell collar for shine and interest.

“To finish the look I added extra anemones to the crystalware on the tables.” – Louise Brumpton, The Secret Garden Flowers

Modern Feel

“An Art Deco theme can sometimes come across as a pastiche of another style, so it was fantastic to see a modern interpretation of this theme. I created a stationery suite with a deco style font but a distinctly modern feel with clean lines and just a simple fine grosgrain ribbon.” – Nikki, Knots and Kisses
