This wedding is super-cool. I mean, come on… a dog in a tux, the groom in a white suit and the bride with two outfits including a fabulous silver jumpsuit; these three things alone make for a REALLY cool wedding, right?! And the best thing? The wedding has a 70’s disco vibe!
I absolutely love every little detail of this amazing wedding that took place at Merribee, New South Wales, in its seven acres of landscaped gardens. Eden and James had a wonderful outdoor wedding ceremony, followed by a party reception in the barn. The couple styled the barn with long banquet style rustic tables adorned with pretty floral and fruit arrangements. Eden and James chose a colour palette of soft pinks, peach and berry hues, and the berries and fruits work really well and give another dimension to the styling. The barn was styled with really cool Sputnik chandeliers, disco balls, incredible floral installations that drape from the timbers of the barn, and metallic gold foil curtain drapes for the walls.
Now, when I said Eden wore two outfits, I should have said “two of the most beautiful wedding outfits I’ve ever seen”! For the wedding ceremony Eden wore ‘Zeppelin’ by Rue De Seine, a divine 70’s inspired dress just perfect for her. The layered skirt panelling, full front split and angel sleeves make this dress really unique. For the reception party Eden changed into the most incredible silver, custom beaded silk wedding jumpsuit by Hayley Burton Bridal. It was the perfect choice for Eden to dance the night away in at their 70’s disco themed wedding.
I really love the choice of bridesmaid dresses too. Each bridesmaid wore a different dress in soft pink or blush to match the colour palette; some short, some long, some floral, some plain, but together they created a really pretty look.
This really is one hell of a wedding and party, with awesome food and a spectacular wedding cake that gave the guests the fuel they needed to dance the night away! A huge thank you to Lara Hotz Photography for sharing this spectacular 70’s disco themed wedding…
I Nearly Died
“James and I met at 4am on Oxford Street in Sydney. That was nearly nine years ago now, and we’ve been inseparable ever since. Wow, how time flies!
“James proposed on my 30th birthday. I had planned a trip to the Hunter Valley with about 15 of our friends, and was all stressed out, trying to make everything go smoothly.
“The night before the wine tour, James said he wanted to take me somewhere before we go; as I’m a bit of a lightweight I assumed it was breakfast. So, we got up early and James drove me to this secluded patch of bushland, complete with a little bubbling brook – it was beautiful! He pulled out a picnic basket with all my favourites, but then our dog, Theo, started rolling in something. I started yelling, trying to get up to stop him, and while this was happening, James was trying to get my attention.
“It took me a second to realise he was down on one knee in front of me. “I was just wondering if you would marry me?” he said. I nearly died, and of course I said yes! Soon afterwards, we went back to the house where our cheering friends were! We all went on to have a huge rager, dancing and laughing until the sun came up. That day was one of the happiest days of my life!”
70’s Disco Wedding Styling
“We based our wedding styling on 70’s disco, but on a farm. In our heads we had a very clear idea that we wanted to have a party, not a traditional wedding. We wanted disco balls, orange tinted glass, berry hues surrounded by timber and Sputnik chandeliers everywhere!
“We had a very large dance floor, and a collection of friends from different bands combined to create a super group, playing tunes all night long! Then, a surprise punk show with James’ band, Beerwolf, definitely kept the party going!”
Truly Special
“Our best memories of the day would probably have to be walking back down the aisle together. It was such a magical moment, holding each other’s hand so tight. All we saw was a wall of colour showered around us, with our families and loved ones cheering. It was truly special.
“”Our advice for other couples is don’t forget to have fun! The day is over in flash, so try and take in every moment. Don’t sweat the small stuff, but if feel like you might, be super-organised and everything will fall into place!”
