How did your business get started and who works at Bethany Lloyd-Clarke Photography?

Had you always wanted to be a photographer?

Yes, being a photojournalist was always my dream job. I’m lucky to have travelled the world for some incredible publications, as well as capture some of life’s most important moments for many families.

Which areas of the UK do you cover?

Based in Yorkshire, Bethany Lloyd-Clarke Photography covers the north of England and London (we lived in London for many years), but we’re happy to travel. We also shoot a couple of destination weddings each year.

What do you feel sets Bethany Lloyd-Clarke Photography apart from other wedding photographers?

Many photographers these days claim to shoot in a ‘documentary’ or ‘photojournalist’ style. If that’s the kind of photography you want then make sure you book someone who has the genuine experience necessary to produce beautiful imagery whatever the situation. We have both enjoyed successful careers as photojournalists covering news, features and portraits for some of the world most prestigious clients. We have photographed subjects in almost every kind of light, weather, environment and emotional situation you can imagine. It’s this experience that adds a unique style to your wedding photography.

How would you describe your photography style?

We are sensitive and discreet, quietly observing your wedding to capture a spontaneous and relaxed record of your wedding day. The majority of what we capture will be candid moments you’ll cherish forever, but we think its important to have some stylish portraiture too.

What is the best thing about your job?

Having the creating freedom to capture and create timeless images. You’re giving someone something that that is totally priceless.

Have you won any awards?

We have both won lots of awards, but not in the wedding industry as we have not entered any wedding awards. I’m probably most proud of my award from the United Nations for a feature on maternity care in Sierra Leona. Matthew’s is probably winning The Times Young Photographer award back in 2009 – a career changing moment!

We feel that the wedding industry is more personal that awards. Each couple should feel comfortable with you as a photographer and being with you on their wedding day. They should also be confident that they like what you capture.

What is your top tip for choosing a wedding photographer?

As I mentioned, you should feel comfortable with your photographer, and confident you will like what they capture. You need to know the photographer will be there doing their job and has the experience to capture amazing images whatever happens – not just if everything is picture perfect.

Random question… What’s your TV guilty pleasure?

Sorry, I’m not really into TV, but I do enjoy Netflix psychological thrillers.
