London-based luxury wedding cake supplier GC Couture recently launched their stunning new 2016 ‘Seasons of Sugar’ wedding cake collection. Creative director Marie Sinclair spent months creating these standout centrepieces which represent the most breathtaking elements of each of the four seasons, and tie in traditional, classic beauty with stunning height and cascading sugar flowers…
Autumnal Walks
Autumnal Walks is a fun, playful design. We thought of how it feels walking through the thick of autumn – the things you would come across as you travelled each step. Big, crisp, crunchy leaves, different shades of brown and orange, acorns, and trailing leaves departing their branches. We added gold ribbon trims to just give it an elegant GC Couture finish.
Autumn Affection
We wanted the Autumn Affection cake to be simple and elegant, embracing the beautiful shades of autumn – the orange, bronze, gold and brown shades – but we decided to switch from the traditional take and give autumn a pastel makeover. We particularly wanted the bottom tier to show autumn’s layer of fallen leaves.
Winter Romance
Winter Romance is all white to represent snow-drenched winter days, with elegant swirling flowers and hints of trailing snowflakes wrapped around the cake, finished with an elegant white satin ribbon and piped pearls. We wanted to incorporate some of winter’s floral beauties such snowberries and Ivy.
Winter Wishes
Blue and white ruffles create a delicate, frosty feel on Winter Wishes. We wanted to use the ombre effect to mirror the dark blue, super-cold winter days blended with the crisp, fresh, blue winter mornings.
Frosted Sparkles
Frosted Sparkles was designed to be tall, imposing and slender like a piercing icicle. The glitter shimmer effect and rhinestone detailing were used to represent the twinkle of icy frostiness as the light hits. The middle tier features a piping technique reminiscent of the layer of frost that sits on the grass untouched, first thing on a winter’s morning.
Springtime Sweethearts
We wanted the Springtime Sweethearts cake to be reminiscent of the birds and animals returning after winter hibernation, bringing bright, chirpy sunshine back. We added the golden birdcage and elements of jewelled pendants to give it a luxurious feel.
Spring Love
Spring Love pays homage to vintage lacing, piped beads and delicate blush-centred roses, but we added pastel block colours, with each tier solidly defined in its own right.
Beautiful Blooms
For Beautiful Blooms we wanted to pair a classic design with a not so traditional shape. The sprinkling placement of the flowers delicately coming down creates a nice waterfall effect.
Summer Passion
Summer Passion is about warm bright, flirty pastel colours showcasing summer’s beautiful florals, like roses, gerbera, daisies and Lilies, with a hint of elegant shimmer reflecting the sunlight beaming down.
Summer Soul Mates
Heat up the love! We used lemon yellow for the Summer Soul Mates cake, which instantly made us think of a bright summer’s day. The pastels used in the core ruffle effect, especially on the hearts, reminded us of the flushes of summer romance.
