With autumn just around the corner it’s the perfect time to feature this fabulous, opulent Poldark inspired wedding shoot. This theatrical feast style shoot took place at the stunning Penventon Park Hotel, a Georgian Mansion house in the heart of Cornwall’s mining capital of Redruth. What better place for a bit of Poldark wedding inspiration than Cornwall?
I adore the bold, rich colour palette. The deep reds, rich purple, plumb and gold, create a spectacular atmosphere against the setting of Penventon Park Hotel.
The styling oozes luxury and elegance, and has a wonderful Poldark-esque feel. The styling team created something spectacular with their choice of florals, dresses, stationery, tableware and cakes (oh the cakes!), and Enchanted Brides Photography captured everything beautifully…
Classical Georgian Style
“The team focused on the history and style of Penventon Park Hotel when designing the styling concept and brief for this shoot . The hotels interior reflects its glamorous history with a dramatic, modern twist. There is a mix of classical Georgian style and elements of Venetian decor throughout.
“With this in mind we set about planning an opulent feast for an inspirational shoot that would have made any of the previous residents of Penventon feel at home.”
Luxurious Colours
“We chose a palette of rich plumbs, deep reds, rich purples and gold to reflect the luxurious style and colours of the hotel.
“The flowers were very much inspired by Poldark and its feast settings. The Georgians excelled in showing off their wealth and impressing their guests in a highly sophisticated manner. Rich exotic fruits illustrated their travels and ability to source the unusual from far off lands. Today it is easier and far more affordable to source the unusual, and foliage and fruit creates a sumptuous feel and is also budget friendly.
“2017 has seen weddings heading away from vintage towards luxe. With an increasing love for period dramas and their influence on styles and fashions, this theme seemed very apt, and the deep rich plum colours perfect for the season.
“We’re also seeing a big revival in using fruits and flowers decoratively together. The bouquet and table centre arrangements were big and bold which really suited this style.”
Sense of Drama
“Lighting was key to creating an atmospheric feeling, so we used lots of candlelight and uplighters. The Venetian masks that would ordinarily adorn the walls within the hotel added a sense of drama and theatrical feel to the shoot.
“The brief for the cake was to create something dramatic to capture the feel of the venue, whilst incorporating a modern day twist. The trio of cakes, with gorgeous deep winter berry palette and pops of red and gold, made a real impact. Gold leaf within the design added a luxe feel and made the design stand out.
“The menus, inspired by a black and gold palette, featured luxurious, pearlescent card with a marbled effect finish. This was hand-selected and designed to complement the grand, Georgian mansion.”
