I was delighted when the fabulous Martin Dabek sent me the pictures of Hollie and Jimmy’s wedding at the historic Kings Weston House. This wedding contains one of my all-time favourite wedding pictures… you’ll know why when you see it, but it contains two deer and some props!
Built many centuries ago, Kings Weston House boasts a plethora of 18th-century features, including magnificent ceilings, marble fireplaces, and a stunning suspended central staircase. It is elegant, full of character, and has such charm; the perfect backdrop for Hollie and Jimmy’s wedding.
I love a wedding with a big bridal party, and Hollie’s seven bridesmaids all looked stunning in mismatched muted pink dresses that complemented the grey, pink and white colours of the styling details.
Talking of looking stunning – I adore Hollie’s wedding dress from Allure Bridal. It has such a pretty sheer lace back with button detail.
This really is a beautiful, elegant wedding (with a hint of shabby chic). Enjoy looking through these fabulous pictures by Bristol wedding photographer Martin Dabek Photography.
An Informal Feel
“Our wedding took place at Kings Weston House in Bristol. We wanted to create a shabby chic, informal feel, and chose a colour scheme of grey and dusky pink with sparkly accents.
“I wore an ivory satin wedding dress by Allure Bridal, which had diamanté embellishment on the waist and shoulders. Jimmy wore a dark charcoal three-piece suit, white shirt and dusky pink tie.
Unique, Handmade Touches
“Decorations we’d collected throughout the year complemented the venue and gave the day a unique and handmade touch. We collected old mirrors from charity shops to use as signs, and spray painted lots of jam jars copper for the table decorations, which we filled with shop bought flowers.
“Our table names were based on places we had visited together, and each had a Polaroid style photo of us in that location. Liz Wong from Elizabeth Weddings hung grey, pink and white paper lanterns in the ceremony room, and strung fairy lights and lanterns in the dining space, making them feel more intimate. She also lined the stairs with glass lanterns as well as dressing the chairs with grey sashes.
“We had a sit down three course dinner including roast beef for main course. In the evening there were fish and chips, and a DIY candy buffet which went down a treat!
“The shuffles provided live music in the evening, and we made a DIY photo booth using a charity shop picture frame and clothes rail sprayed gold.”
Lots of Dancing and Singing
“On the day there were amazing clear blue skies – our photos look like we were abroad! Other stand out memories include our first dance, where we surprised ourselves with spontaneous spinning in circles for a finale! There was lots of dancing and singing along to the music, plus an energetic conga around the whole ground floor of the venue!”
Love Shack
“After our wedding we enjoyed a relaxing week in the Lake District. It was lovely not to have to rush to jump on a flight, and we spent a lovely week going on walks exploring the lakes and relaxing by the wood burning stove.
“We stayed at the aptly named ‘Love Shack‘, an architecturally designed timber retreat set in the trees with views over Lake Windermere, and ended the week at the luxurious Brimstone Hotel where we enjoyed the spa.”
Stick to Your Decisions
“We planned our wedding in under a year. It’s achievable, you just have to be flexible with dates and stick to your decisions. Also stick to your budget if you can – we borrowed decorations from friends and shopped around charity shops for bargains.”
