Nothing gets us as excited as the festive season. Well, maybe several glasses of warming mulled wine. Last Night of Freedom has a vast selection of destinations that truly come alive at Christmas. So, if you’re planning celebrations in winter, here are their top Christmas markets to indulge in Yuletide cheer on your hen weekend.
Edinburgh Christmas Market, 18th November 2016 – 7th January 2017
Scotland’s life of the party, Edinburgh is one of our top hen party destinations.
Edinburgh is quaint, charming and full of character. The olde-worlde city is famous for beautiful attractions, iconic architecture and the hugely popular Christmas Market. Set along Princes Street Gardens, this Christmas market is brimming with festive creations and atmosphere.
Indulge in delicious, warming mulled wine, bratwurst, cheese, chutney, roasted chestnuts and much more. The stalls also boast artwork and hand-crafted seasonal gifts for those who have left their shopping a little late.
Add a cherry to the top of the boozy Christmas cake with a ride on the Big Wheel, or a skate around the mini ice rink.
Munich Christmas Market, November 25th – December 24th 2016
The Bavarian Capital gets into the party swing towards the end of the year, starting with Oktoberfest and going straight into the festive markets.
Munich Christmas Market is the oldest in the city. However, there are 24 markets dotted around Munich that ensure the celebrations continue into the New Year. Dating all the way back to the 14th century and set in the Marienplatz square, this market is Santa’s Grotto.
Browse the delicate wooden stalls selling traditional, handmade gifts, nutcracker soldiers, music boxes and Bavarian Christmas ‘Pyramids’. Of course, there’s also festive food treats and that all-important mulled wine.
To give it the all-over Elf feel there’s even a Christmas band. They play from the balcony of the City Hall, alongside the 100ft Christmas tree decorated with over 2,500 candles.
London Christmas Market, November 18th 2016 – January 2nd 2017
Of course, we had to include Winter Wonderland. This attraction is one of the biggest in legendary London.
Rubbing shoulders alongside Buckingham Palace and Big Ben, Winter Wonderland takes place in the gorgeous Hyde Park. At just 10 years old it’s still a relative baby when it comes to Christmas Markets, but this is the best festive spirit fix in the whole of the UK.
Enjoy skating around the country’s largest open-air ice rink on your hen weekend. Then, prepare for an arctic adventure in the Magical Kingdom walk-through. If you fancy a show there’s the jaw-dropping circus shows, and world-class dancing at The Nutcracker on Ice. Finally, get sweeping views of London on the Big Wheel, and enjoy the mulled wine, bratwurst and seasonal food galore.
Hamburg Christmas Market, November 21st – December 23rd 2016
Renowned for nightlife, and packed full of seasonal cheer for all to hear (sorry…) in winter.
The Germans never fail when it comes to throwing a good old knees-up. The Christmas markets are no different. The finest and prettiest is in Hamburg‘s Town Hall Square.
It’s filled with crafts from all over the region. Handmade wooden toys, authentic gingerbread and, of course, the famous ‘printen’ cookies. There’s also a carousel where you can reminisce over your childhood and get dizzy after one too many glühwein (mulled wine).
But, we’ve not even touched on the best bit… Santa and his reindeer hover above the market. The Germans sure have great contacts.
Manchester Christmas Market, November 10th – December 20th 2016
Don your reindeer antlers and get into the festive spirit at one of the largest Christmas markets in the UK.
For five magical weeks the busy streets of Manchester are transformed into the winding roads of the North Pole. There’s lots of international wines, mouthwatering food and live music thrown in for good measure. Also, festooned stalls and chalets at the Albert Square market boast gifts, toys, clothes and jewellery. Indulge and soak up the Mancunian Christmas atmosphere.
